Four basic rules for proper skin care
-
Cleansing
-
Exfoliate
-
Tone
-
Moisturize
Q. Why cleansing?
Daily cleansing gets rid of surface dirt,
make up, some dead skin flakes and excess oils. Morning and evening
cleansing is recommended.
Q. Why exfoliate?
Daily exfoliation removes dead skin
flakes that form daily. As new skin cells from beneath the tip layer of
skin on our face and body, they rise to the surface of the skin then die and
turn to flakes. If these flakes remain on the surface your skin can look oilier,
drier, duller and clog the skin pores. When these flakes are removed the
skin looks smoother, cleaner, more radiant and younger. Exfoliating
encourages the skin to renew itself at a faster rate, that bring new skin cells
to the skin surface at a faster rate. Moisturizers work more efficiently.
Q. Why tone?
Toning will remove any residue left on
the skin by cleansers and exfoliating products. It will also help to
balance the skins PH levels. Toning also will help rehydrate the skin without
drying it out.
Q. Why moisturize?
As the skin ages it loses its softness
and elasticity. It begins to sag and often becomes dehydrated. Good
moisturizers are made with a complex blend of ingredients that combine the
positive effects of emollients, humectants and lubricants. These
combinations help to counteract the effects of dehydration and help keep the
skin soft, smooth and radiant.
Q. Should I protect my skin?
Yes! Unprotected skin can be
damaged by exposure to wind, dirt, air-conditioning and heating, smog and
ultraviolet rays. Dehydration, chapping and blackheads can show up. It is
extremely important to apply good protective products to clean, tone, exfoliate
and moisturize the face. We recommend to always wear sun protection SPF 15
or higher.
Q. My skin gets very dry in the
winter. What can help?
Skin is usually dryer in colder months
because of low humidity. It will help to take warm showers or baths not
hot. Use gentle cleansers and moisturizing shower gels. Stay away
from plain soaps. Be sure to moisturize daily. The best time to apply body
moisture is right after your shower while the skin is still damp.
Q. Are there really any benefits if I put
vitamin C on my skin?
Vitamin C in skin care products can help
skin texture and strengthen skin tissue and encourage antioxidant protection.
Vitamin C can also help brighten and lighten your skin and also can encourage
collagen production.
Q. Is smoking bad for my skin?
First understand your skin quality is
dependent on a good blood supply. Smoking can constrict blood flow and
remove all important oxygen. It your book supply is poor with a low amount of
oxygen your skin will be adversely affected. If you are a smoker I suggest to
drink plenty of water. Use a vitamin C serum or cream. Use a quality cleanser
morning and night. Have facials to help blood circulation use a quality
moisturizer and SPF 15 to ensure skin protection. The best advice: STOP
SMOKING!
Q. Is it OK to use bar soap and water on
my face?
Bar soap is typically not formulated to
be very kind to your face. Antibacterial bar soaps are too strong and are
better for other parts of the body. Use a quality cleanser for your face.
Q. My face is very oily. Is alcohol OK to
use?
No! Alcohol is much too stringent
for the skin. By excessive drying from the alcohol the body will respond
by producing more oil on the surface which can cause even more problems.
Q. Why do I get blackheads?
A blackhead is a clogged pore opening
made of dead surface cells, facial oils and sebum (oil) that are
compacted. The top of the clogged pore is exposed to the air, oxidizes and
turn black. Proper cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing will
help. Ask a skin care professional for the best products to use.
Remember you best advice will always be
from your skin care professional!
